Wag more, bark less.

OUR HISTORY

In October of 1994, a dedicated group of Dog Fanciers from the west central Oklahoma areas of Weatherford, Clinton, Elk City and the surrounding communities came together to represent the interests of all dogs. The Club was formed, officers selected and a Constitution adopted. The American Kennel Club (AKC) was notified of our intention to comply with all AKC rules and regulations.

The Club voted to hold activities in three areas of canine performance: Conformation, Obedience and Herding Trials. The Board of Directors formulated short range and long range plans that included eventually holding licensed events in all three disciplines.

In February of 1995, the club held their first event, which was an All Breed Conformation and Obedience Fun Match. The club then applied for and successfully obtained B/OB Match sanctioning status from the AKC. They held their first B/OB match February 25, 1996. In 1998, the club received A/OA Match sanctioning and held a successful match that qualified the club to hold back to back AKC Licensed All Breed Conformation Shows & Obedience Trials in December 1999.

West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club is licensed to hold Herding Trials and has held several trials, offering all levels of participation in both the arena and open field course, on sheep, ducks and cattle.

West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club has also participated in the area of 4-H Canine Activities. They have held several Canine Good Citizen Tests over the years, and supplied numerous educational programs to the public including AKC Videos, ICG Canine Reproductive Education Seminar, Canine Dog Assistants Program, Dog Grooming and Health Maintenance Seminar and visited area nursing homes with their canine companions.

WCOKC has been fortunate to have an active group of very experienced dog people in the area willing to work together and form this club. They have also enjoyed the membership of an active Junior Member group and have helped to educate local 4H groups and other young people in the responsibility and ethics of purebred dog breeding.

The West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club is dedicated to the ethical and responsible ownership and breeding of purebred dogs. They have set long range goals to ensure compliance with this desire and look forward to serving the west central Oklahoma area for many years to come.
